Emergency River Diversion and Temporary
Bypass Channel Installation, Cumbria
Following the sudden collapse of a riverbank section in Ulverston, an emergency temporary works solution was required to maintain flow whilst remediation works were undertaken.
The situation demanded an immediate response to prevent further deterioration of the affected area and provide a safe, controlled route for water around the failed section.
High Water provided an emergency response service, mobilising specialist personnel and temporary works equipment at short notice to support the scheme.
Using 250 meters of our EUR150 Geodesign Barrier system, we constructed a 125-metre-long temporary bypass channel to divert water around the collapsed bank section. The modular barrier system enabled a temporary flow route to be established quickly, reducing the need for more extensive construction works during the emergency phase.
The project involved out-of-hours mobilisation, temporary works design and installation over a weekend working period. Equipment was prepared and dispatched immediately, with specialist installation teams deployed to site to construct the bypass channel and support the client's emergency works programme.
The temporary bypass channel provided an immediate means of managing water flows around the collapsed bank section.
Helping to stabilise the situation, preventing further damages and allowing recovery works to proceed.
The modular temporary works solution enabled the bypass channel to be installed quickly, reducing programme delays and giving the client a practical short-term measure while permanent repairs were planned and completed.
